Fatuma’s Story

Fatuma was shepherd one day with her friends, not realizing that a fallen power line was close by.

In the ensuing accident, Fatuma would lose not only her left foot but also her left hand and arm up to her elbow.

Her father had to drive two hours from their home to Addis Ababa, the closest place that could give Fatuma medical attention. It was nearly four years before a chair could be bought for Fatuma, which meant that her parents had to carry her wherever she needed to go. Fatuma had dearly wanted to go to school, but without mobility, that wasn’t passible.

Through your generosity and support, Fatuma was given a wheelchair through Agape Mobility Ethiopia, and can now attend school and achieve the education she had wanted so much.

Ali's Story

Saba was driving through Addis Ababa one day when, by chance, she happened on Ali. He’d had developmental problems with his legs from the time he was born, which left him in a constant kneeling position.

His legs were terribly dirty, and the constant pressure on his knees and shins was becoming a problem. Saba, driving past, could not help but stop to help.

He was compelled to happened to have a chair in the back of her van – which immediately became Ali’s chair.

Through your generosity and support, Ali has been given the gift of mobility, and the bright yellow chair Ali uses has given him a new lease of life.

Mekfia's Story

Mekfia’s new ability to be mobile puts her on track to achieve her dreams in the Gurage zone of Ethiopia, about 125 miles south of Addis Ababa. At age 26, she hopes to start a small business selling sambusa in her Muslim village. Sambusa is a delicious African meat or lentil-filled pastry. “I am happy to get this wheelchair! Now I can get out to go to the Mosque to study Quran,” she said.

Agape Mobility Ethiopia gave Mekfia a hand-powered mobility cart in March, 2020.

Mekfia was able to attend school until fourth grade, but the lack of proper, timely treatment for tuberculosis resulted in her being paralyzed from the waist down.

“She is a beautiful lady – a young woman and we need to pray for her,” said Saba Marcos, President, Agape Mobility Ethiopia.
